There may be a chill in the Triangle air, but the runways have been heating up with the newest coats you'll want in your closet. We've scouted the best outerwear to keep you stylishly warm while on the way to a party, shopping mall or ice skating rink.

1. Puff it up
Our state's ski slopes make for a great weekend jaunt. When the trip's over, keep the vacation going in a perfectly puffy jacket.

When it comes to this outerwear, the brighter the better. Check it out in red, neon green or blue. If you don't want to be too daring, navy and cream keep the look fresh.

2. Done and dusted
As the days get shorter, why not make your coat a little bit longer? Enter the duster. This coat, which is knee-length or longer, offers a chic silhouette perfect for on-the-go Triangle women.

Neutral tones work best on this topper – take a shot at camel, our favorite.

Don't shy away from this trend if you're petite - just add some chunky heels and strut confidently.

3. Pattern play
The versatility of outerwear lets you sport a print for days without tiring of it. Find a pattern as unique as you and watch the compliments roll in.

Want to stay classic during the day? Sport a patterned coat over a neutral top, black jeans and booties. The coat transitions easily to night with just a switch into a cozy sweater dress.

4. You're the bomb
This borrowed-from-the-boys look is back and better than ever.

The casual and cool bomber jacket pops up in street style all over the world.

While green is the go-to color for this jacket, feel free to switch it up in peach or black with edgy patches. Pair the topper with boyfriend jeans and over-the-knee boots.
